FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY ACCREDITATION IN JEOPARDY!

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) placed sanctions on the Fort Valley State University.

Fort Valley State has 12 months to correct some serious issues or their accreditation might be in jeopardy. The college is still currently accredited but is in the warning status.

Sacs reprimanded Fort Valley in multiple areas, control of finances, federal compliance with financial aid programs, and documentation showing the college employs competent faculty.

President Rivers says he is confident that the issue will be resolved, I hope so this is my school. Savannah State is also on the chopping block as well, but they only have 6 months to resolve their issue of not having enough full time employees to ensure a quality education.

I honestly believe that these HBCU’s are on the chopping block and will be bought up by UGA. For Valley has 183 square acres of land and UGA wants it. More information is set to be released on Dec.15th.

Troy Davis is set to be executed, we can still help!!!!

I have been posting about Troy Davis for sometime now and to sum it up. A seemingly innocent man is going to be executed tommorrow in Savannah. I got a email from the http://www.colorofchange.org/ group and I want you all to take a look at it. Please look at it, it is not too late !

We're deeply saddened to have to report that the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole refused to grant clemency for Troy Davis earlier today. Their decision clears the way for Troy to be executed on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

It's a major setback in our fight to save Troy, but this isn't the end of the road. There are still three things we can do that might make a difference:

1. Sign the petition demanding that the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole reconsider its decision and grant Troy clemency. It reads: "In the face of overwhelming evidence which indicates that Troy Davis may be innocent, justice demands that you immediately reconsider your decision in his case and grant Troy Davis clemency."

2. Sign the petition to Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm and Judge Penny Freesemann, which reads: "With no other barriers between Troy Davis and the death chamber, we call on you to take all necessary steps to stop Troy Davis' execution."

3. Forward this email to your friends and family, and encourage them to take action.

You will automatically sign the petitions by clicking the link below:

http://act.colorofchange.org/sign/keepfighting

Taking this action will automatically send your message to Chisolm and the Pardon Board, ensuring that they continue to hear the voices of Troy's supporters for as long as we can keep up the effort.

To execute Troy Davis would clearly be unjust. As former Republican Representative Bob Barr wrote earlier today, "Imposing a death sentence on the skimpiest of evidence does not serve the interest of justice. The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles did not honor the standards of justice on which all Americans depend by granting clemency. In doing so, it will allow a man to be executed when we cannot be assured of his guilt."1

To execute Troy would go against the basic principles of the American criminal justice system. Please join us in calling on Georgia officials to uphold the values they were sworn to protect by stopping Troy Davis' execution.

Help Save Troy Davis

The execution of Troy Davis is set to September 21 2011. The Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm, who asked a judge to issue Troy's death warrant, can also ask the judge to take it back.  At the bottom is a link that you can help petition. Many people as well as myself believe that this man in innocent.

      Keep these things in mind…

· All but two of the original witnesses against Troy Davis have signed affidavits recanting their earlier testimony. Most claim that their testimony was coerced by police officers.
· Multiple witnesses say that another man—one of the original witnesses against Davis—has claimed to have slain the fallen officer.
· The weapon used in the murder was never found. The only physical evidence connecting Davis to the crime was indirect, circumstantial—and new testimony disputes Davis’s connection to that evidence.
· Due to legal technicalities, the new evidence never got a new hearing at trial, only an evidentiary hearing. The judge at that hearing admitted that the case against Davis was not “ironclad.”
· Troy was never granted a new trial – only an evidentiary hearing at which he was called upon to prove his “actual innocence,” an undefined legal standard that far exceeds the “reasonable doubt” bar that prosecutors had to hurdle in the original trial.
· The court system is known to make mistakes and sentence innocent people for crimes they didn’t commit. It’s very difficult to undo those mistaken sentences, which is why the Board of Pardons and Parole exists. It acts as a last stand when the courts make errors.
· In 2007, the Georgia Board of Pardons stated that it would not allow any execution to proceed where there was any doubt about the guilt of the prisoner.
· Point to the case of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was executed for a crime it now appears he did not commit. The Innocence Project also has many resources on exonerated death row inmates.
· Call on the Board to grant clemency and to commute the death sentence of Troy Davis.

London Riots pt.2

The riots in London have are fueling riots in other parts of England. The riots in one part of London were a result of the killing of an unarmed black man by the police. Mark Duggan, a 29 year old father of four, was gunned down in North London’s Tottenham Hale section. At the time of the shooting he was in a cab that had been stop to be searched for illegal guns, one was found at the scene. The initial reports say a gun was fired at the police. The Guardian of London says that ballistic reports show that the gunfire came from police. The family of Duggan and the community wanted answers and a peaceful protest was scheduled. The family wanted to meet with police officials to get answers and the police reps refused to meet with them, things turned ugly.

THE LONDON RIOTS pt.1

I’ve heard over the past couple of days about rioting over in London, and at first I heard it and shunned it. I than realized that because I’ve been exposed to these scenarios by the news so many times before it almost didn’t matter. After I continually heard different sides to the story, it began to intrigue me because what I was hearing had nothing to do with what the news told me, the different stories I’ve research boil down to an issue of race.

The Internet is a Leo Too!!

from slate.com

Came across this article on slate.com thought it was semi interesting,on Aug. 6, 1991, a scientist at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) named Tim Berners-Lee unveiled a project for organizing information that he called the World Wide Web. Of the many individual projects that went into creating the Internet as we know it, this was one of the most significant steps toward bringing the Internet to the general public. In honor of the World Wide Web’s 20th birthday party, we’ve dug up some embarrassing baby photos for the occasion.

In 1989, Berners-Lee submitted a proposal for a linked system of information to keep track of all the documents at the laboratory. He called it “Mesh” at the time, but later went with “World Wide Web.” His boss responded that the idea was “vague but exciting.”

Mike Bigga's "BURN" video ban lifted from B.E.T

From Vapors Magazine

“Our Modern day Martin and Malcolm’s are less concerned about us and more concerned about making studio albums”

Yesterday I talked briefly on B.E.T but I forgot to add something. The video that they lifted from the ban was not a “bad” video. I realize some viewers may not be as familiar with Mike Bigga a.k.a Killer Mike as others, let me start by saying he is not your typical rapper who rappers about the “Holy Trinity” of rap money, cars, and clothes. He is an Atlanta native who is very much in tune with what is going on in his community as well as other communities around the world.

Black Evil Television

B.E.T has lifted the ban from Mike Bigga a.k.a Killer Mike’s video entitled “Burn”. The network originally banned the video for what they describe as the video having a violent nature and advocating violence. Meanwhile Lil Wayne and Drake can be on as many drugs as they would like and Rick Ross can sell 30 keys before 10am and shot 50 people before breakfast.

S.C.L.C President Dies

If you have ever seen me, than you have seen me wear this, It is the SCLC Medallion.

The Rev. Howard Creecy Jr., a Baptist preacher chosen early this year as the new president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, died suddenly Thursday (July 28) at the age of 57.

Fear Mongering

Phobia mongering

(excerpt from Big Rube, on the song called Phobia)

“…Yo senses heighten, reflexes Sharpen vision's enhanced adrenaline flows as they rush across the Street you leave the print from the heater grip in yo palm then yo heart
Rate and breathing drag back to normal as you realize these n*ggas just
Goin' to the store.

Many of us mistake Phobia for true fear. Whereas fear is a gift from
God to be used for self-preservation. Phobia are obstacles strategically
Placed in society by oppressers of positive existence. Through
Stereotyping, innuendo, false documentation, and glorification they'll
Turn your fear switch to a permanent on. We can change this by changing
The small truth within' the lie…”

Today I want to discuss fear mongering in the media. Fear mongering is the use of fear to influence the opinions and actions of others towards some specific end. The feared object or subject is sometimes exaggerated, and the pattern of fear mongering is usually one of repetition, in order to continuously reinforced the intended effects of this tactic. Every American news outlet in the pass couple of days, have been talking about the emending “Armageddon” that would happen if the debt ceiling was not raised by yesterday.

Prosecution sought the death penalty on July 5, 2011, the jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter of a child, but guilty of four misdemeanor counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer. Part 2 of the smif n wessun press release (videos)

Montgomery explains that friends and family gathered to celebrate the album release of Monumental, the collaborative album of Pete Rock and Smif N Wessun. The soldout event, held at Tammany Hall in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, was peaceful on the inside and outside. Earlier in the evening some guests wanted to enter Tammany Hall but were turned away by the club’s management and security. A minor argument ensued but was peacefully settled by the club’s bouncers. Thirty minutes later, approximately

Black Panther Animated Series

A few weeks ago I was lounging in Atlanta with my good friend Alex Bluff AKA @MrConsciousness scrolling through Netflix and I came across a cartoon series called The Black Panther. Intrigued I watched all six episodes and was blown away to say the least. The Black Panther was an Animated series based of the worlds first African American hero created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1960's

Mexicans vs Blacks in slavery

Mexicans

Blacks

                     VS

My friend Mr.Robinson text me this morning about an article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, that talked about black probationers in the field picking crops because of the illegal immigration act that Gov. Nathan Deal put in place. I really don't know were to begin with this article, I can't understand why people seriously believe it is okay for minorities to be indentured servants.

Modern Day Slavery/GA Immigration

In Georgia the new Governor Nathan Deal has enacted a immigration law similar to the one’s in Arizona. Georgia allegedly has some 200,00+ illegal immigrants and are supposedly taking jobs from good, wholesome, apple pie eating Americans. The law has started an outcry from the mostly the Latino community but on the grand scheme of things other people should be concerned as well

Blacks in the media

The issue of race is a reemerging topic that plagues are society. From people wanting a certain job position, walk in a certain neighborhood, and other achieved statuses race seemingly plays a factor. The image of blacks in America is heavily influenced by the media. In the civil rights era the media was used to show black people in a certain light that made it acceptable for brutality and injustice in mainstream America’s eyes and in the same token it was the media who sometimes shed light on the injustice. We fast forward to today and we now have the television, which I believe in some few ways has help the “image” but in more ways has caused harmed to the “image.”

Ohini Jones artist off the week 6/13-6/19

This week’s artist of the week is Ohini Jonez. A Brunswick Georgia native, Ohini like every artist I will feature has a style synonymous to himself. Coming from Georgia you might expect him to sound a certain way or talk about limited Georgia experience but his music transcends state lines and even regional lines.

White Entertainment Television and HWCU's????

Out the blue I received an email from a viewer of the blog and he told me that he liked the blog and liked what I was trying to do, but he was worried that I came off slightly racist. I asked him how he came to the point and he commented on my previous post of black ownership , black athletes attending HBCU’s, and a BET post that I have not posted yet. So he said all this to say basically what about the “good ole boy’s? Why don’t we have a historically white school or a white version of MTV? I thought this was very comical. Either people of a certain color are naive or ignorant to the fact that if it is not an HBCU than it technically is a historically white school and the “white” version of BET is called MTV/CMT/VH1(ironically one company owns all these music media outlets, Viacom), but either way it goes the media , business, whatever is disproportionately in the majority(whites) favor in all facets, excluding incarceration rates. So shout to the viewer who sent me that email I hope this addresses your concern

Why won't black athletes play at HBCU's

Been watching college sports on ESPN classics this past week and one thing I noticed was the black players. I wondered why more black athletes do not attend HBCU’s(Historically Black College/University) . Is it because they would not receive the notoriety they receive at other institutions? If Tyrell Pryor attended Fort Valley State I bet no one would care.

Artist of the week 6/6/11 Kenny Bowman

This week’s artist is a good friend of mine Kenny “Skinny Kenny” Bowman. He is a East Atlanta native hailing from Stone Mountain, don’t know what it is about that area but it’s producing stars left and right. Mr. Bowman has a style that is as unique as his personality, a real Laissez-faire attitude towards life he tends to look at things in a positive light as opposed to the negative.

Erykah Badu New Video

R.I.P Geronimo Pratt

Erykah Badu has directed her latest video for the song Out my mind/Just in Time on her album New Amerykah Pt.2. She teamed up with Dame Dash’s umbrella corporation Creative Control for another innovative video. In this new age of Technicolor videos , phantom images, and green screens(no offense to any of those cause I use those effects) it is nice to see something refreshingly retro.

Light Skin Dark Skin and Everything in between

In 2011 more black people all over the world still struggle with identity. Some have lack of cultural identity some struggle with spiritual identify and some suffer from pigment identification. Calling ourselves African American would be sort of a farce seeing that we are descendant and not directly from Africa. Being called black isn’t really accurate because very few of us are the color black.
