Fear Mongering

Phobia mongering

(excerpt from Big Rube, on the song called Phobia)

“…Yo senses heighten, reflexes Sharpen vision's enhanced adrenaline flows as they rush across the Street you leave the print from the heater grip in yo palm then yo heart
Rate and breathing drag back to normal as you realize these n*ggas just
Goin' to the store.

Many of us mistake Phobia for true fear. Whereas fear is a gift from
God to be used for self-preservation. Phobia are obstacles strategically
Placed in society by oppressers of positive existence. Through
Stereotyping, innuendo, false documentation, and glorification they'll
Turn your fear switch to a permanent on. We can change this by changing
The small truth within' the lie…”

Today I want to discuss fear mongering in the media. Fear mongering is the use of fear to influence the opinions and actions of others towards some specific end. The feared object or subject is sometimes exaggerated, and the pattern of fear mongering is usually one of repetition, in order to continuously reinforced the intended effects of this tactic. Every American news outlet in the pass couple of days, have been talking about the emending “Armageddon” that would happen if the debt ceiling was not raised by yesterday.

They use worse worst case scenarios, charts and complicated(often made up) graphs. These are all tools used to generate fear into the masses. They use these tactics all the time you have to think on a large scale, in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s the “threat” of communism was very real to Americans and a Communist was the worse thing you could be. Now today we have to what out for Socialism and the “terrorist”, I see it as the same game different pieces. They use this to intact unfair laws and not enable unjust wars being fought.

In the early stages of media expressions like early Newspaper, the top sellers were in a category named yellow journalism, which is basically a modern day tabloid it was filled with exaggerated stories and allegations. When you look at Fox, CNN, MSNBC it is no coincidence that they all cover the same stories and often even use the same terminology, they use this to get a message of fear/hate in you.

The funny thing about the news is that what they report is usually garbage and the news on the ticker at the bottom is usually the important stuff. I said all this to say this do not let the media influence your thinking. Whether it be Swine, Bird, or dinosaur flu or whether Japan is testing nukes do not let that interfere with your day to day interactions. Peace!!!
