Black Evil Television

B.E.T has lifted the ban from Mike Bigga a.k.a Killer Mike’s video entitled “Burn”. The network originally banned the video for what they describe as the video having a violent nature and advocating violence. Meanwhile Lil Wayne and Drake can be on as many drugs as they would like and Rick Ross can sell 30 keys before 10am and shot 50 people before breakfast.

B.E.T has always had controversy, they say that they want to change stereotypes and images and that they want to be a beacon for black life but they have Baldwin Hills reality shows, game shows that “Pay Yo Bills”, 106 and park, and a airing of Soul Plane that comes on at least once a week.(maybe once a month but once every 10 years is enough, it’s not funny, it’s stupid)

When I was younger no doubt I watch B.E.T I watched music videos for hours on end and then I stayed up late to watch B.E.T’s Uncut. These images as a kid can do more harm than good, even though I knew that it was smoke and mirrors(sometimes I did think the jewelry, women, and cars were belonged to them) some of my peers perceived that as real life and sadly some of them still do. What people don’t realize is that airing a video is virtually free for a network, they do not produce these videos nor do they star in them, the expense is paid by the label, artist, producer, etc.

On another note I use to also watch Teen Summit, a show in which they discussed topics geared towards teenagers like sex, drugs, and music in a intelligent and informative way, I use to watch the B.E.T News to find out what was going on all over the world, and I watched the show with Tavis Smiley all of it very informative, but now the best thing they have on there is the B.E.T newsbreak which is 30 seconds.

It’s funny how Debra Lee CEO of B.E.T claimed that BET would create original programming, change its line-up and bring back public affairs programming. They cut "Uncut," and other man-friendly shows, such as "The Wire" and "American Gangster." They now have reality shows left and right(who really cares about Lil Wayne’s ex wife) and programming like “The Game.”

B.E.T is a long way from getting better it is actually getting worse. I see more reality shows coming and worse videos being played while the conscious stuff is being ostracized and label as “too intelligent for our audience(they actually said that about a video from Little Brother called “Lovin it.). Maybe Boondocks had it right B.E.T is not Black Entertainment Television it’s BLACK EVIL TELEVISION

  1. An intellegent discussion of a real serious issue affecting young African Americans. The older generation stopped requiring thoughtfulness, respect and intellect from ourselves and our young people. All of us demand freedom to be as stupid, inhuman and unproductive as we want to be. We have all become self-destructive and full of self hatred.
