Lupe Fiasco-Lasers
Another great album from Lupe. He has his traditional anti establishment flown and uptempo skateboardesque beats. He steps a little bit out of his norm on this with a couple tracks like Out of my head ft. Trey Songz, but with tracks like Beautiful lasers, state run radio, and Words I never Said have that classic Lupe style. Some tracks invoke inspiration and hope. In this super materialistic world it’s great to have a well rounded brother dropping something with some weight. This cd has received some harsh criticism, but I think it I because of the content. He really utters some powerful rhetoric on here. Some of the beats are pop like and house music, which I’m not a huge fan of but the overall product is solid. I think State Run Radio, should be played daily.
I give it a 8.5/10. It took way too long for this to come out, I know there was an actual movement by fans to get this released, and I’m Beaming is not on here, I love that song. What I did love about this album is how he talks about how fear is such a weak emotion, to many of us are scared to voice our views.
You can listen to this on a long highway drive, on the weekends, even at a bar b que, the weight of his words might be too heavy for some.
This is the first verse to Words I Never Say ft. Sasha Grey,
“I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets How much money does it take to really make a full clip 9/11 building seven did they really pull it? And a bunch of other cover ups Your child's future was the first to go with budget cuts If you think that hurts, then wait here comes the uppercut The school was garbage in the first place that's on the up and up Keep you at the bottom but tease you with the upper crust You get it then they move it so you never keepin up enough If you turn on TV, all you see's a bunch of what the f*ck Dude is dating so and so, blabbering about such and such And that ain't Jersey Shore, homie that's the news and these the same people supposedly telling us the truth Limbaugh was a racist, Glen Beck is a racist, Ghaza strip was gettin bombed but Obama didn't say shit That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either I'm a part of the problem, my problem is I'm peaceful And I believe in the people! Yeah!”
Mature content is discussed in the cd 16 and up is reccomended, but to each is on. He talks about some topics that aren't readilt discussed so if you do play it for a younger audience prepare for question.
