The Roots-How I Got Over
I’m trying to remember one Roots album I have not enjoyed, can’t think of one and this is no exception. How I Got Over, has that classic Roots feel. The content always weighty and timely, this album seems to reflect a internal struggle within Blackthoughts self.
This is good refelection music, late night chilling music, or weekend lounge music. If you love live instruments ans intricate beats you are in look.
8/10 some tracks I could have done without,. Overall though it was a great album I love those thought provoking tracks.
My favorite tracks are Dear God(Another one of my all time favorites), Walk Alone, Radio Daze , Dillatude The Day, and How I Got Over
“they say he’s busy, call me crazy I thought he could mind read, who does the blind lead, show me a sign please, If everything is made in China are we Chinesse?”… “It’s still me one of your favorite fans, I get off work and right back to work again, I finally need to go and get my head exam, look how they got me on the Def Jam payment plan.”, I really liked those lines.
People always say it’s no “good” rap, it’s always about money, drugs, and degrading women, but The Roots are the antithesis of that. Right on To The REAL!!!!
Mature content is discussed but I would let anyone over 10 listen to it, good subject matter.
The roots are masters at making concept albums. This one is no different...the title in itself is a nod to the struggle the roots have been through of being one of the most known unknowns of the industry. What other hip-hop group can claim being a house band on a network television but havent had a platinum album? Black Thought has proven himself to be one of the more consistent rappers in the game
ReplyDeleteI agree, I have never recieved a Roots album that didn't always strike a chord with me. I think it's funny how many rappers now are starting to have full bands instead of computer based beats now. Black Thought, is def. in my top 10 as far as lyrical ability is concerned.
