You ever heard anyone say perception is reality? Is that really the case? Or is that us putting exterior on a pedestal? If Bill Gates or Warren Buffet walked into a room half of us would be unaware, because their exterior does not reflect wealth. Rarely will you see Gates in a Italian designed tailored suit nor will you find Warren Buffet in a Bentley. Why is so much emphasis placed on the exterior in the black community?
Is it the illusion of “looking like money”, what we are going for, is it money? For some strange reason we have to have the latest phones, the latest shoes, everything. We spend so much time trying to look like something that we have over saturated ourselves on the exterior and robbed ourselves on the inside.
I think it comes down to perception and reality, for some crazy reason people believe that they are one in the same. Your perception of a situation/person without knowing a person is not concert reality.

Because "blacks" value system is in the opposite direction.

"Blacks" expectations and value are not in correspondence with what they see as power.

I agree, I feel as if we value status symbols as opposed to actual status. We have little financial education and too much desire for things that we do not need.
ReplyDeleteI like your blog. you have some good topics.
ReplyDeletei've had this same convo with a couple of homies. even with our kids we're giving a false sense of worth with the things we place emphasis on. my friend dresses her son in nothing but Polo, and she doesn't understand the negative impact it'll have as far as what he deems is important
ReplyDeletehe might not be smart but atleast he has polo right
