ARTIST OF THE WEEK THICKER THAN WATER

On Friday at the CalaBar & Grill In Stone Mountain , I had the extreme pleasure of one reconnecting with old friends from high school and two being introduced to their band, Thicker Than Water. You are going to hear me say this frequently but these guys were exceptional.

Anybody who knows me(and for those of you all who don’t) know I love a live band and these guys were exceptionally great. In a genre that I would define as a Neo Funk/Soul these guys bring it. A very energetic band that only seems to get better as the night progresses. From some of your favorite old school songs like “What you do for love” by Bobby Caldwell , “Back in the Day” by Erykah Badu , to even some alternative songs composed entirely by them it is a wonderful experience I can’t stress that enough. I like how on certain songs different people took the lead and showcased their own individual solo talents. The trumpet players were the most entertaining, when those cheeks came out , and that horn goes up you can feel the emotion coming through the other end of it and defiantly hear it, reminiscent of some real talented old school jazz musicians.

The band is comprised of 8 members Andre(trumpet), Menes(trumpet),Steve(trumpet) Marlin(Drummer), Ray(Bass Guitar), Ron(keyboard/piano),Kennon(lead guitar/vocals) and Charles(Alto Sax who killed the hip hop classic “They reminisce over you” by Pete Rock and C.L Smooth) and has been playing for over a year now. With so many people making music these days it’s nice to see some real musicians for once. I look forward to hanging out with these guys in the future and showcasing more of their talent, because of a time constraint I didn’t get to sit down and conduct a full interview like I wanted to so I will defiantly have to go back and do that and I have to get some better photos and videos.

Forgot to mention the singer they brought up Summer she had beauty, style, and the voice to match it. She sung Erykah Badu and Chaka Khan and hit every note with precission I look forward to doing a piece on her one day.

Go out and give them your support, every other friday at CalaBar and Grill in Stone Mountain.
