Young Black Males and the Police.
The black communities perception of the law is jaded and rightfully so. To many times are there reports of police brutality and misconduct. There is not enough proper education in teaching our younger black males, how to deal with the police. Your reactions to these volatile situations could literally mean the difference between life and death.
Black youth has become and has been a target by aggressive and hypocritical by the hypocritical legal system. Sometimes because of skin color and sometime because of hair. To be frank if you are young and black you will likely have to deal with the police at some point. You don't have to be doing anything illegal you can just "fit the description" and your good day could turn into a nightmare.
Whenever you leave your house make sure you have your identification.
If you are in the car and you get pulled over, there are steps you should take. Follow your instincts if you suspect they pulled you over for no good reason, turn the recorder on your phone on and try to keep it on you. Remain calm and ask what was the initial traffic stop for, be prepared for a lie.. “you were speeding and failed to maintain lanes", have knowledge of were you are, look at his badge remember his name, and say it over so your recording can here it. From there remain calm and give them the usual information your id, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance.
Always remain calm never argumentative. If it was just a ticket let him write and go on your way, fight it in court you will not win against the police. If the officer ask you to step out of the car, don't panic! realize cops work off intimidation, the uniform, their way off talking to you is meant to be authoritative and intimidating. Relax step out of the car and do not put your hands in your pockets, do not reach for anything, do not make sudden movements. They may do what’s called a Terry Frisk/Weapons pat, that means they frisk your waist, your ankles anywhere that a weapon could be, not in your pockets. Make sure you instruct them that they are free to do a weapons pat and not to go in your pockets, it does not seem like much but it shows the police that you are somewhat knowledgeable or that you have something to hide. From there for fear of safety they may place you in handcuffs, that means you are being detained although it is evasive and frankly scary, but does not mean you are being arrested. You have to listen to what they say, you are not under arrest until they say the words "you are under arrest for. I’m placing you under arrest for.."(this is a worse case scenario). If they ask to search your vehicle you have the right to say "NO"!, they will ask " what do you have to hide?, if you don't have anything to hide why can't I search your vehicle?'. To search your car they need probable cause. Remember you have the right to refuse the search but you can not refuse an open air sniff by the police K-9/dog.
This will be a continued segment after I gather more research.
"Jerome get's more time than Brandon, at the airport they search throw my bags and tell me that it's random."
