Troy Davis is set to be executed, we can still help!!!!

I have been posting about Troy Davis for sometime now and to sum it up. A seemingly innocent man is going to be executed tommorrow in Savannah. I got a email from the http://www.colorofchange.org/ group and I want you all to take a look at it. Please look at it, it is not too late !

We're deeply saddened to have to report that the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole refused to grant clemency for Troy Davis earlier today. Their decision clears the way for Troy to be executed on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

It's a major setback in our fight to save Troy, but this isn't the end of the road. There are still three things we can do that might make a difference:

1. Sign the petition demanding that the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole reconsider its decision and grant Troy clemency. It reads: "In the face of overwhelming evidence which indicates that Troy Davis may be innocent, justice demands that you immediately reconsider your decision in his case and grant Troy Davis clemency."

2. Sign the petition to Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm and Judge Penny Freesemann, which reads: "With no other barriers between Troy Davis and the death chamber, we call on you to take all necessary steps to stop Troy Davis' execution."

3. Forward this email to your friends and family, and encourage them to take action.

You will automatically sign the petitions by clicking the link below:

Taking this action will automatically send your message to Chisolm and the Pardon Board, ensuring that they continue to hear the voices of Troy's supporters for as long as we can keep up the effort.

To execute Troy Davis would clearly be unjust. As former Republican Representative Bob Barr wrote earlier today, "Imposing a death sentence on the skimpiest of evidence does not serve the interest of justice. The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles did not honor the standards of justice on which all Americans depend by granting clemency. In doing so, it will allow a man to be executed when we cannot be assured of his guilt."1

To execute Troy would go against the basic principles of the American criminal justice system. Please join us in calling on Georgia officials to uphold the values they were sworn to protect by stopping Troy Davis' execution.

Help Save Troy Davis

The execution of Troy Davis is set to September 21 2011. The Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm, who asked a judge to issue Troy's death warrant, can also ask the judge to take it back.  At the bottom is a link that you can help petition. Many people as well as myself believe that this man in innocent.

      Keep these things in mind…

· All but two of the original witnesses against Troy Davis have signed affidavits recanting their earlier testimony. Most claim that their testimony was coerced by police officers.
· Multiple witnesses say that another man—one of the original witnesses against Davis—has claimed to have slain the fallen officer.
· The weapon used in the murder was never found. The only physical evidence connecting Davis to the crime was indirect, circumstantial—and new testimony disputes Davis’s connection to that evidence.
· Due to legal technicalities, the new evidence never got a new hearing at trial, only an evidentiary hearing. The judge at that hearing admitted that the case against Davis was not “ironclad.”
· Troy was never granted a new trial – only an evidentiary hearing at which he was called upon to prove his “actual innocence,” an undefined legal standard that far exceeds the “reasonable doubt” bar that prosecutors had to hurdle in the original trial.
· The court system is known to make mistakes and sentence innocent people for crimes they didn’t commit. It’s very difficult to undo those mistaken sentences, which is why the Board of Pardons and Parole exists. It acts as a last stand when the courts make errors.
· In 2007, the Georgia Board of Pardons stated that it would not allow any execution to proceed where there was any doubt about the guilt of the prisoner.
· Point to the case of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was executed for a crime it now appears he did not commit. The Innocence Project also has many resources on exonerated death row inmates.
· Call on the Board to grant clemency and to commute the death sentence of Troy Davis.
